HRAI Activities

To operationalize its objectives, HRAI hosts a variety of events and programs designed to foster innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community engagement in human-AI interaction, including:

  • Research: HRAI serves as a resource for the university and partners to provide expertise in the theoretical frameworks, methodologies, and best practices of designing, implementing, and creating responsible computing systems that collaborate with human users to supplement and augment their capabilities.
  • Teaching: HRAI faculty teach several courses relevant to the design, implementation, and study of human-AI collaborative systems, such as CSE 40748 Human-AI Collaborative Systems and CSE 40424 Human-Computer Interaction. HRAI also provides experiential learning opportunities to Notre Dame students through programs such as iTREDS.
  • Interdisciplinary Workshops and Seminars: These workshops and seminars are designed to facilitate collaboration across different academic disciplines. Each session focuses on specific topics that encourage participants from diverse fields including sociology, psychology, computer science and ethics to work together to solve complex problems at the intersection of their disciplines.
  • Community Engagement: HRAI is fostering collaborations across external organizations and community partners. This includes partnerships to ensure that research findings are grounded in practical applications and pilot programs where AI technologies are tested and refined in community settings. HRAI adopts Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) methods, which involve community members in the research process from the outset. This approach ensures that the research questions and objectives are aligned with the needs and concerns of the community.
