Biography

Simon is a PhD student in the lab of Matthew Champion and a member of the integrated biomedical sciences program. He earned a BA in biochemistry from Goshen College in 2018. Simon’s work in the Champion lab involves using mass spectrometry proteomics to investigate proteins that are associated with diseases. Specifically, he develops informatics tools to analyze the massive datasets generated from mass spectrometry. He has projects related to tuberculosis virulence as well as ovarian cancer detection, and is especially interested in small, non-canonical proteins that often evade detection. He enjoys making data analysis easier and more reproducible for the scientific community.
