Research, Analytics, Data Innovation, and New Technologies

Program Overview:
RADIANT is a premier, hands-on artificial intelligence (AI) and data science program designed for high school students participating in the Notre Dame Leadership Seminars. Led by faculty from the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society and supported by iTREDS Scholars from the University of Notre Dame, the program offers students a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of data, technology, and society. High school students can apply for the program through the Office of Pre-College Programs.

Through engaging workshops, real-world case studies, and close mentorship, participants will build foundational skills in data science, AI, and computational thinking. The curriculum emphasizes teamwork, problem-solving, and ethical data use to address societal challenges. Students will gain hands-on experience in analyzing complex datasets, developing machine learning models, and creating impactful data visualizations—all while preparing to become responsible, innovative leaders.

Course Details:

 Introduction to core data science concepts:

  • Dataset selection, cleaning, and exploration
  • Data analysis, machine learning, and AI-driven decision-making
  • Real-world problem-solving through team projects

By the end of the course, students will be equipped with practical skills in AI and data science, with a focus on using data for social good.


Internship Opportunity for iTREDS Scholars

Notre Dame & Saint Mary’s Undergraduates:

Qualifications:

  • Must be an active iTREDS Scholar from Notre Dame or Saint Mary’s College in a data science–related field
  • Demonstrated interest in education, mentorship, and community engagement
  • Passionate about inspiring and teaching high school students

Benefits:

  • 8-week paid summer internship
  • Training in teaching, mentoring, and applied data science
  • Direct collaboration with faculty and high school students

Important Dates:

  • The application should be submitted to the Director of Data Science Education programs no later than March 31st of each year
  • Acceptance decision: by early April of each year
  • Internship Duration: June – July  (8 weeks)
