AI is reshaping how we learn, work, and make decisions—education must evolve to keep pace.
Overview
The Lucy Family Institute’s Responsible AI in Education thread prepares K–16 learners, teachers, and families for a world shaped by artificial intelligence (AI). It builds AI literacy, supports curriculum development, and designs and tests novel AI systems and tools to enhance teaching and learning through responsible, inclusive, and real-world applications.
This work addresses key challenges such as workforce readiness and curriculum development, helping schools grow their AI capacity and equipping students with the skills and awareness needed for the future.
Why Responsible AI in Education?
As AI becomes part of everyday learning, many are still figuring out how to use it effectively and responsibly. Opportunities to build AI literacy remain limited, and educators need more support to integrate AI in ways that enhance teaching, learning, and educational decision-making.
The Lucy Family Institute addresses this gap by advancing responsible AI education and strengthening AI literacy across a wide range of contexts beyond the classroom. Working directly with educators and students, it designs and applies AI tools that support learning, critical thinking, and real-world exploration. Through hands-on experiences and practical applications, the Institute helps people develop AI literacy and use AI in meaningful, ethical, and impactful ways.
Core Activities & Workshops
Conferences, workshops, and other trainings will translate this work into practice by providing hands-on, real-world learning experiences that build AI literacy, support educators in integrating AI responsibly, and equip students and schools with the skills and tools needed to navigate an AI-driven future.
